Dr. Anastasia (Staci) Trekles, is a clinical professor serving in the Graduate Studies in Education Department at Purdue University Calumet in Hammond, Indiana, USA. Staci has an extensive background with computers and computer-based technologies of many types, and often conducts workshops for practicing teachers in schools throughout Northwest Indiana, as well as at national, international, and Indiana state conferences like the ISTE Conference, the Society for Information Technology in Teacher Education (SITE) Conference, EDUCAUSE, and the Indiana Computer Educators (ICE) Conference.
Staci is proud to be a longtime supporter of ICE, Indiana's premier ISTE affiliate group, and currently serves as board member and Marketing chairperson. Staci also serves as Communications chairperson for the Learning Forward Indiana affiliate group.
Her specialty area is instructional technology, and she has taught a number of undergraduate- and graduate-level courses, both in-classroom and via distance education, over the past fifteen years, including EDCI 26000, Introduction to Computers in Education, ENLG 40400 Web Design for Professional Writers, EDCI 56600, Hypermedia Applications in Education, EDCI 59100, Advanced Web Design, EDCI 57500, Foundations of Distance Education, EDCI 67200, Advanced Instructional Design, EDCI 59100, Human Issues in Technology, and EDCI 59100, Instructional Technology Leadership. The basis for this latter course in particular provides the content for this textbook, and her research and feedback from students has helped to shape her first textbook, Putting People First: Human Issues in Instructional Technology, available at http://zelda23publishing.com. She also provides coursework for teachers pursuing license renewal in the areas of technology integration and skill-building. In her spare time, Staci has recently completed her Ph.D. in instructional design for online learning, with her research focusing on deep learning approaches in accelerated online programs. She is also an avid photographer, and is working on a book of photos of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore for publications in the Apple iTunes iBooks Store. She also serves as the President of the board of directors for local non-profit, the Independent Cat Society, and works to improve animal welfare in the Porter and LaPorte County region.
