Dr. Mary Didelot

Associate Professor, Educational Psychology and Counseling
Graduate Studies in Education

Dr. Mary Didelot is an Associate Professor of Counseling and Development Program.  Her Ph.D. is in Counseling Psychology from Walden University in Minneapolis, MN.  She also has a Master’s Degree in psychology from Indiana University. Her Bachelor’s degree is in secondary teaching, with a minor in psychology, from Ball State University.  Mary is a licensed mental health counselor in private practice in Indiana, and she is a nationally licensed hypnotherapist. 

Mary has worked at Purdue University Calumet since 1981 in various positions, including Instructor of English, Director of Academic Advising, Assistant Dean of Students, and Associate Professor of Educational Psychology.  She has most recently taught educational psychology in the Initial Teacher Preparation program with a particular interest in mental health issues for teachers, as well as graduate multicultural education courses.  Although in the C & D Program, she remains program chair for the Master’s in Secondary Education Program.  Mary is also a consultant for the Indiana Department of Education Professional Standards Board, with her most recent project being the development of the Indiana assessment for school leaders.  Before coming to Purdue Calumet, she taught in the Gary Public Schools for 12 years. 

Mary’s areas of specialty in counseling include hypnotherapy, fear/anxiety, personality disorders, disability, and counseling individuals from diverse populations.  She has been a therapist for 20 years.

As a teacher, Mary follows a Vygotskian philosophy.  As a therapist, Mary hold to an existential philosophy as a foundation for client-counselor relationships and for professional evaluations.  These two philosophical foundations also are realized in her research agenda.  She is nationally and internationally published in existential theory.
